Simon Jackson, VP Northern Europe, NEC.

'The Screen's Showcase sessions on Wayfinding and Education played to a packed auditorium at Battersea last year. The feedback was excellent and we know that signficant business was concluded from conversations that were born of the event...'

The Screen On Tour.

In Association with NEC Showcase 2012

For 2012 NEC moved down the Thames from the imposing Battersea Power Station to the fantastic O2 Arena for their excellent Display Showcase. The unique environment of the O2 provided the perfect back-drop to this annual event, where the very latest in stunning large format flat panel, LED and video wall technologies were all available for up-close inspection.

Working with 47 of its solution partners, NEC not only showcased the best of its own exciting new technology, but also brought-to-life the cream of the applications it enables. Partners from every side of the industry demonstrated how they use NEC displays to deliver ground-breaking solutions across key industry verticals such as Retail, Education, 3D & Leisure, Digital Out-Of-Home, Professional Office and Transport.

As a part of this inspiring event, digital signage thought-leadership and networking group The Screen took over one of Cineworld’s gigantic 3D screen theatres to hold two special ‘Expert Briefings’. In front of more than 100 attendees, expert speakers explored the issues, challenges and opportunities facing companies working in the digital signage and digital out-of-home industries.

In the morning session The Screen focused on the how the O2 itself has embraced digital technology; hearing from Lesley Saville of O2’s owners’ AEG and key partner sponsor Lisa McHugh of BSkyB. NEC’s Simon Jackson was on hand to discuss how NEC has helped the O2 to not only deliver its digital infrastructure, but also provide the jaw-dropping projection systems at this flagship Cineworld Multiplex. The session closed with Simon Rees of DCM explaining how digital technology is improving the overall cinema retail experience with a specific focus on the revolution it is driving in cinema advertising.

In the afternoon The Screen rolled up its sleeves and took a practical look at how specific digital signage creative techniques are actually delivered and utilised to add value to signage applications. Kicking off with Dirk Huelsermann, Manager of DOOH Solutions at NEC Vukumet, we looked at how Vukunet was helping to unlock the incredible potential of the 1.6 billion public displays in Europe. Neil Morris of Grand Visual walked us through how brands and advertisers are implementing Augmented Reality whilst Mark Reynard of White Space showed some simple techniques for creating 3D content. The session wrapped up with a great introduction by Rob Thurner of Burner Mobile to the new opportunities for digital signage afforded by the relentless pace of smart phone adoption.

All-in-all two excellent sessions in a truly inspirational setting and another great tick in the box for attendees of this unique NEC Showcase event.
